Mt Himlung, 7162m, Western Nepal 23,497ft / 7,162m

Adventure Consultants is running an expedition to climb Mt Himlung during the post monsoon in 2012. This is a superb ascent for people looking to push their altitude experience to a new level or for those who simply want to climb an ‘achievable’ 7000m Himalayan giant.

Himlung does not present many technical difficulties as it is not a steep mountain, however any ascent to such a high elevation presents its own challenges and is therefore a significant achievement. The lessons gleaned from an ascent of this mountain will really add to any climber's knowledge and experience of big mountain climbing.

The expedition starts in Kathmandu, Nepal. From here we travel out west to begin the approach trek towards the mountain. Our walk starts at 840m, climbing over 8 days to

Base Camp at 4,900m. The trail takes us close to Annapurna before veering off to traverse the ancient villages of the remote Gandaki region. Here the inhabitants have retained much of the Tibetan culture and religious beliefs.

We place four camps on the mountain as we gradually move to higher altitudes. We benefit from the assistance of a strong Sherpa team and we’ve factored into our climbing plan a prudent window for reaching the summit.

Whatever your reason for coming to Himlung, you’ll find that this expedition invokes an undeniable sense of attachment to the high Himalaya.
