Gasherbrum II is the world’s 13th highest mountain that is situated at the head of the Baltoro Glacier and in close proximity to fellow 8000m giants; Gasherbrum I, Broad Peak and K2. Many climbers consider this region to have the most spectacular mountain scenery on the planet with a unique flavour that is unique to this remote corner of Pakistan.
From base camp the climbing route ascends a broken glacier to the Camp one site that sits in the centre of a huge amphitheatre walled by the behemoth peaks Gasherbrums 1 through 5. From here the climbing begins in earnest as we link ridge lines and employ fixed rope between the next three camps. Summit day involves a raising traverse beneath the summit pyramid before crossing over to the north side of the peak to access the summit pyramid. The views are stunning with four neighbouring 8000m peaks in the immediate vicinity.
Expedition participants with experience on steeper slopes will enjoy the direct nature of the climb. Whilst considered one of the more achievable 8000m peaks, G2 is certainly no push over as team members will be responsible for carrying their own personal equipment and a small portion of group gear on the mountain. We utilise the services of Pakistani High Altitude Porters to assist with the load carrying to establish camps.
This expedition is suitable for strong climbers who have a desire to ascend one of the world's highest peaks with an expedition that transcends many of the difficulties that are normally associated with expedition climbing in Pakistan. Adventure Consultants has a long legacy of ascents in this incredible mountain range because our approach towards successful expeditions here is to set the expedition up to succeed from planning stage right through to the summit strategies we employ.
