Lake Wanaka is in the South Island of New Zealand, 50 minutes by road north of Queenstown and five hours by road south of Christchurch, which has an international airport. Dunedin also has an international airport and is 3.5 hours away.

How to get to Wanaka;

1. There are daily Air New Zealand flights from Christchurch to Wanaka. See www.airnewzealand.co.nz for details and online bookings. A shuttle service meets each flight to bring you into Wanaka www.alpinecoachlines.co.nz and drop you at your accommodation.

2. You can fly into the international airport at Christchurch and catch a bus to Wanaka. It takes 7.5 hours and costs from NZ$1 to NZ$60.00 each way, departing Christchurch at 9.30am and arriving Wanaka at 5.05pm. The system of booking has a range of prices according to how far in advance you book and how many seats are left on the bus! See www.nakedbus.co.nz  

3. You can fly into Queenstown several times a day from Auckland and Christchurch, with some international direct connections from Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Cairns at certain times of the year. There is shuttle bus going back and forth between Queenstown / Queenstown Airport and Wanaka six times daily, taking one hour each way.
