Our Guides

 © Paul Rogers

The friendly and companionable guides who make up the Adventure Consultants team are recognised as some of the most skilled and experienced mountaineers in the world. In addition to each of them having an extensive climbing background, our guides are qualified under the auspices of the highest qualifying body in mountain guiding; the International Federation of Mountain Guides Associations (IFMGA / UIAGM). We believe that you should always insist on internationally qualified guides as you would insist on the qualifications of any person to whom you invest so much responsibility in.

The AC guides have individually taken their professions to the highest of levels, yet relish the opportunity to share the environment they are so passionate about and communicate this in an atmosphere of confidence and enjoyment.

If there are any specific traits we encourage in our guiding staff, it is compatibility coupled with effective leadership. We know that good leadership translates into successful and safe experiences in the outdoor environment.

Leadership to us means being able to bring a group together for a common goal, with positive coaching and encouragement being highlights of the trip. These are the key aspects that set us apart and that enable us to consistently operate great adventures and expeditions. We are recognised as being amongst the best in the business, an accolade we continue to aspire to that provides our motivation for continual reflection and improvement.

Whether you are considering your first foray into the mountain environment, or are returning for an intense expedition at the higher end of the scale, our guides do their very best to ensure you have an amazing time and achieve success!

Our Sherpa Team

No summit is possible without our fantastic climbing Sherpa team. Adding strength to our expeditions, our core Sherpa staff from the Nepalese highlands help to make our expeditions fun, safe and successful. Almost always the strongest climbers on Himalayan expeditions, these highly skilled Sherpas are an integral part of our operation.

The team have dozens of Everest summits between them.

Ang Tshering Sherpa is our Expedition Sirdar and has directed our Sherpa staff since 1992, bringing with him considerable knowledge and experience. As a consequence of Ang Tshering's leadership, we have a legendary group of Climbing Sherpas who operate in a harmonious atmosphere of cooperation and commitment to our expeditions and team members. Our group of climbing Sherpas is enthusiastic, motivated and regarded as the strongest and most cohesive group of Sherpas in the Himalaya. It is indicative of the reputation that our Sherpa team has earned - that Sherpas from other expeditions enthusiastically pursue a future position with the AC teams.

Our cooking staff are very well known for the quality of the cuisine they produce and as a consequence are coveted by other team leaders due to the reputation they have established. We have been developing the personnel within our Sherpa team for 18 years and they are an integral part of the Adventure Consultants Team.

New Zealand Guides

Adventure Consultants guides are NZMGA and / or IFMGA qualified mountain guides. They are professional mountaineers and operate to the highest industry standards.

Being a great climber alone is not enough to work with us; our standards demand that trip leaders are great guides as well. You will find your guide friendly, approachable and focused on providing a safe and enjoyable trip in line with your objectives and comfort level.

Success with the highest margin of care is always a hallmark of our approach; promoting the realisation that even extreme pursuits such as high altitude mountaineering can be undertaken safely.

Adventure Consultants employs only IFMGA or NZMGA qualified guides, the most advanced training and certification program in New Zealand and internationally. In order to gain these qualifications guides must undergo rigorous training and assessment on climbing skills, instructional skills, avalanche training and assessment, wilderness first aid, rescue training and much more. The qualification takes many years (5-7) to attain and ensures you are getting a world class professional service.
