Private Expedition
Monte Sarmiento 7,887 ft / 2,404m
On the southern most landmass outside of the Antarctic circle lies the Tierra Del Fuego where Sarmiento stands as the highest mountain on the western seaboard. We access this very remote mountain by boat, weaving our way through fjords to establish base camp on the beach!
Weather is the major environmental obstacle on Sarmiento and we have established that the best season for climbing is late summer, hence we have scheduled the expedition to run during March.
We will employ up to three camps on the mountain and will attempt to make an ascent of the west peak as well as the higher eastern summit. The climbing route is almost entirely on snow and ice with technical climbing on the final reaches to the summit where some moderate ice sections may be encountered. There is room however for many routes of a more sustained technical nature on Sarmiento or the surrounding peaks, many of which are still unclimbed.
If you enjoy the adventure of very remote places with an interesting mountaineering objective then Sarmiento should be high on your list !
