Everest success!
On May 22 the Adventure Consultants Everest team reached the summit of the world’s highest mountain in perfect weather. The team had left south col after 9pm on the 21st to start the ascent and made very good time to the summit - the first members arriving at 6.15am for a glorious sunrise!
The team was led by veteran AC guide Mike Roberts and our irrepressible US based guide, Ang Dorjee Sherpa. Congratulations go to James Haydock, Tony Hampson-Tindale and Mandy Ramsden who all climbed in fine style and made it back to south col by early afternoon. Mandy deserves special mention for becoming the first South African woman to complete the Seven Summits and only the second South African woman to reach the summit of Everest!
The weather on Everest is the primary factor that dictates whether our summit bids will be successful or not. For that reason we place a lot of emphasis on our weather calls and gather a lot of information from various forecasters and weather sites to make our final decision. We made the call for the team to move through bad weather to camp three in order to benefit from getting the best day on the 22nd. This paid off as other teams stayed behind and we had the day of the season up there.
This was Mike’s 4th time on the summit and the 14th time for Ang Dorjee! The summit Sherpa team were Lhakpa Dorje, Dawa Zangbu, Pemba Chote, Sange Dorji, Ang Sona, Passang Bhote, Temba and we owe a big thanks to them for their superlative efforts to make the expedition a success.

Elbrus in July
Bookings are closed on our first Elbrus but we do have some spaces available on our second Elbrus departure July 28 to August 8. This trip to the straight-forward, but moderate altitude, peak in Russia enables you enjoy some Russian culture in Moscow and to explore the highest mountain in the Caucasus mountain region.
Elbrus is a very good ascent for people who want to gain some snow-climbing experience as cramponing and ice axe skills are taught at the start of the trip. The trip is being led by the super-experienced Mike Roberts who will be looking forward to showing you around on this highly exotic trip!

First ski day of the season at Coronet
We all go a bit nutty about this time of year when the snow piles up around our local hills but the ski resorts haven't opened yet! To relieve the nuttyness we went to Coronet Peak in Queenstown for the day, our first official 'gone skiing' day. Jealous? You should be - it was stupendously good :)
