Elbrus

 

Trip 1 initiates in St Petersburg and finishes in Moscow where we get to sample a lot of the local culture along the way. 

Trips 2 and 3 start and finish in Moscow and are thus two days shorter, although the time on the mountain is the same.

Trip 1: 14 day program

DAY

 

1  

Arrive St Petersburg, Russia. Team meeting, gear check and welcome meal.

St Petersburg tour. We tour around this remarkable city to view the incredible architecture and visit the Hermitage Museum; famous for its array of art classics. Later we explore the remarkable Peter and Paul Fortress.

Depart St Petersburg for the flight to Mineralnye Vody. Travel by coach to Terskol in the Baksan Valley.

Acclimatisation ascent (using ski lifts) of Cheget Mountain, 3,600m. Stay in a local hotel.

4WD to a waterfall (2,700m), acclimatisation hike to Ice Camp (3,700m). Return to hotel.

Ride ski lifts and head out for an acclimatisation hike. Overnight stay in the newly renovated Islam Hut (3,900 m) on the slopes of Elbrus.

Acclimatisation hike to the Obelisk.

8

Acclimatisation hike to Pastukhov Rocks, return to hut.

Summit day. Leave hut about 3 am for the climb of Elbrus’ west summit, 5,642 m. Overnight in hut.

Contingency summit day. Overnight in hut.

Spare summit day, descend to the valley and return to the hotel.

Drive to Mineralnye Vody. Fly to Moscow, stay at hotel.

City tour in Moscow, visit famous Russian landmarks like the Kremlin, Red Square and enjoy the modern Russian culture to be found in this entertaining city.

14

Depart hotel for the airport. Fly home

Trips 2 and 3: 12 day program

DAY

 

1  

Arrive Moscow and transfer to the hotel. Team meeting, gear check and welcome meal.

Two-hour flight to Mineralnye Vody (Caucasus). Travel by coach to Terskol in the Baksan Valley.

Acclimatisation ascent (using ski lifts) of Cheget Mountain, 3,600m. Stay in a local hotel.

4WD to a waterfall (2,700m), acclimatisation hike to Ice Camp (3,700m). Return to hotel.

5  

Ride ski lifts and head out for an acclimatisation hike. Overnight stay in the newly renovated Islam Hut (3,900m) on the slopes of Elbrus.
