Elbrus is a giant dormant volcano, which separates Europe from Asia and consequently has become one of the coveted “Seven Summits” as the highest summit on the European continent.  Our expedition travels briefly through Moscow and directly to the mountains where we focus on acclimatisation and getting onto the mountain for our ascent. For many years we have been climbing on the south side of the mountain which has ski lift access but in the 2011 season we had to climb Elbrus from the north side Base Camp using two camps, as the south side region was closed. In 2012 we plan to return to the south side route as it has re-opened.

Being relatively high, Elbrus certainly demands respect for its altitude and we approach this by climbing high each day during acclimatisation and sleeping low. As with any foray to high altitude,  it is imperative that expedition members are fit and strong and in good health.

Our Trip #1 initiates in St Petersburg and finishes in Moscow where we get to sample a lot of the local culture along the way. Our Trip #2 starts and finishes in Moscow and is thus two days shorter, although the time on the mountain is the same.

  • Discover the wonders of St Petersburg and Moscow
  • Experience moderate altitude mountaineering on non-technical ground
  • Enjoy the cultural and environmental diversity
