Baruntse lies at the epicentre of three glacier valleys, the Imja, the Hunku and Barun.
The peak itself commands a central position amongst some of the high peaks of the Himalaya. The rewards of summit day include spectacular views of Lhotse, Everest, and Makalu. We approach via the Arun valley and then ascend from the Barun glacier. This is a remote expedition culminating in a relatively short climb to the summit of this majestic 7000er, with an ascent of Mera Peak included on the acclimatisation trek.
The route is not technically demanding and is essentially a straightforward snow and ice climb with some corniced sections. A prominent ice cliff at around 7000m adds a challenging aspect to the climb. The expedition guides will lead this ice cliff and fix ropes to aid the ascent and descent.
This expedition offers a remote experience, and a challenging and rewarding introduction to Himalayan Expedition climbing.
