Adventure News 3 September 2015
The Wanaka premier of ‘Everest’ is now SOLD OUT. Thank you to everyone who snapped up tickets for this night! This event is a charity screening with all proceeds going to the Adventure Consultants Sherpa Future Fund and will be held at Cinema Paradiso on September 10.
The Te Aro Community in Wellington will be hosting a movie night to raise funds for First Steps Himalaya; a New Zealand based charity that is directly involved in rebuilding homes and schools in rural Nepal. Their fundraiser night is on September 17, at the Embassy Theatre in Wellington.
This multi-million dollar blockbuster film is based on the events of the 1996 Mount Everest tragedy and focuses on the summit and survival attempts of two expedition groups; the Adventure Consultants group led by Rob Hall (played by Jason Clarke), and the Mountain Madness group led by Scott Fischer (played by Jake Gyllenhaal). It features a cast of stars and includes Jason Clarke, Josh Brolin, John Hawkes, Robin Wright, Michael Kelly, Keira Knightley, Emily Watson, Jake Gyllenhaal and Sam Worthington - as Guy Cotter. The movie opens in IMAX theatres from September 18 and for general release from September 25.

With longer days and temperatures noticeably warmer, spring has arrived. If you are itching to get out into the hills, consider the Mountaineering Instruction Course, our most popular seven-day skills course. This course is ideal for those who want to experience alpine mountaineering whilst learning the skills that will keep you safe. You need no previous experience and at the end of the course, you should have the skills and confidence to travel in glaciated terrain. You will have the technical ability and know-how to attempt major mountains by their easier routes in New Zealand and trekking peaks in the Himalayas. The program will also set you up with sufficient prowess to be guided on more technical ascents.
2015 / 2016 Mountaineering Instruction Course Dates:

There are a couple of spaces still available on our Three Peaks Expedition to Nepal this post monsoon season. This expedition is an ideal progression and excellent introduction to Himalayan mountaineering; you will climb three classic peaks including Island Peak (6,189m / 20,305ft), Pokalde (5,806m / 19,048ft) and Lobuche East (6,119m / 20,075ft). If you want to climb in the Himalaya's, this is an excellent expedition to start you on your way and an ultimate itinerary to experience climbing not one, but three 6000m peaks.

This expedition offers an excellent introduction to climbing at altitude on non-technical ground and also includes an ascent of Ecuador's highest peak. The expedition begins by climbing the trekking peaks Pasochoa and Pichincha near Quito and then goes on to ascend Cayambe (5,790m / 18,996ft), Cotopaxi (5,911m / 19,000ft) and Chimborazo (6,310m / 20,703ft). On rest days you visit the majestic and wild ecological zone of the ‘cloud forest’ and revel in the region’s amazing biological diversity and cultural heritage. **Note Cotopaxi has had some recent volcanic activity in August which has closed its National Park - we can still operate this expedition programme in Ecuador but we climb Antisana instead.
