In what has turned out to be one of the fastest expeditions ever to Carstensz in West Papua, one of the most elusive of the Seven Summits, our team reached the summit at 4,884m at 8am on Nov 5. Soon after arriving in Timika on Nov 2 the volcano Rinjani eruprted on the island of Lombok which closed airports in Bali but then in a lucky turn of events, they managed to return to Denpasar Airport in Bali on Nov 6 due to a wind change allowing the airport to open. Thus by flying in to Carstensz Basecamp on Nov 3, summiting on Nov 5 and back to Timika by helicopter on Nov 6 they were super fast on the mountain and the whole trip fitted nicely in between the eruptions and ensuing wind changes. Well done team. There's always something exciting about the Carstensz expeditions but you just never know what it is going to be!

The soaring massif of Mitre Peak in Fiordland rises straight out of Milford Sound and always makes you gasp in wonder upon sighting it. Our newest New Zealand guided ascent is a climb of this iconic peak which has all the elements of a grand adventure. Set in the mystical south western wilderness of Fiordland, our approach takes us over the Sound via kayak or a short helicopter flight to begin the climb through native forest up onto the tops and on to the exposed granite ridges looking out to sea. We guide Mitre Peak from January to April, when the weather is more stable and climbing conditions are optimal for the ascent.

Adventure Consultants have two options for our adventurers to tackle the North Pole Last Degree - Standard and Highly Supported. The Standard expedition takes 19 days and has a group size of four adventurers with one guide, whilst our Highly Supported option has a 1:2 ratio. There is nothing like journeying over the sea ice at the top of the world in the North Pole region and April is the only time to go to achieve success. Well developed polar travel skills are essential for survival in this extreme environment and our guides will take you there, sharing their knowledge along the way.

With our recent return to Nepal to operate climbing expeditions in the post-monsoon season to Manaslu, Ama Dablam and Three Peaks Nepal we have been able to see first hand the outcomes from our Sherpa Future Fund. Adventure Consultants CEO Guy Cotter met with many Sherpa families to check on the children's well being and their education needs as well as the needs of the mothers who are caring for them. He was also able to meet with injured Sherpas and see that their rehabilitation plans are working and distribute funds raised from the Sherpa Future Fund to the Sherpas with damaged houses from the earthquakes in April and May, which was gratefully received by all. We thank you so much for your support of the Fund to help these Sherpa families and we will be sending out a newsletter update to all contributors shortly.
