Adventure News 30 June 2015
Come along and hear from Guy Cotter, AC Director and CEO, who was at Camp 1 on Everest when the first major earthquake struck in Nepal on April 25 and from Jason Laing, Queenstown Helicopter Pilot and one of the first on the scene involved in rescues across Nepal and Everest, who recently received a bravery award for his high altitude rescues.
Both will be showing images and film clips, and talking about their experiences in Nepal. Proceeds from this fundraiser will go to The Juniper Fund (supporting mountain workers in Nepal) and Tsering’s Fund (providing aid to refugees including those from the Langtang Valley.)
Date: Wednesday July 1, 2015

With our planned resumption of climbing trips and trekking journeys in Nepal from September, many travelers have been checking their travel insurance options. We have been gathering information across the spectrum of travel insurance providers and are able to help our clients find the right fit for travel insurance when heading to Nepal. As part of your booking we will consult with you and help find a travel insurance match for your country of residence. With many providers still offering cover for general travel insurance, trip interruption, medical and rescue insurance, your needs will be able to be met for your planned trip to Nepal in 2015. Give us a call to discuss insurance or to chat about joining one of our post-monsoon trekking peak expeditions to Island Peak or Mera Peak.

The South Island of New Zealand has had its best start to winter in many years. The mountains are totally covered and we have had two good snowfalls to lake level. To add to that, we have had very cold temperatures with a record -21 C in Omarama! Some shiver at the prospect but for those of us that love the outdoors, this is superb news and means that conditions for our upcoming Ice Climbing Courses and Backcountry Skiing trips are looking really, really good.
If you have been thinking about getting out there, then don’t delay because THIS is the year to do it!
Backcountry Ski Course Dates: BSC 1: Aug 3 - 7, BSC 2: Aug 17 - 21, BSC 3: Aug 31 - Sep 4, BSC 4: Sep 14 - 20 (7 days)

Kilimanjaro is like an island, standing tall and sentinel surrounded by the hot, dry plains of Africa. It amazes all with its widely contrasting vegetation; from tropical rainforest to high arid moorlands, watched over by towering cliffs and glaciers. It is the easiest of the Seven Summits and definitely the most romantic! Mt Kenya is an exciting pre-climb to Mt Kilimanjaro or an adventure on its own. Mt Kenya has three main peaks; Batian, Nelion, and Lenana Peak. Guided ascents 1:1 are offered to climb Batian and Nelion, which are technical ascents. Lenana Peak is more accessible and offers straightforward trekking to a spectacular vantage point.
